Call for nomination: Nils Klim Prize 2013


The Nils Klim Prize is awarded to a Nordic researcher who has made an outstanding contribution to research in the arts and humanities, social science, law or theology, either within one of these fields or through interdisciplinary work. Particular importance will be attached to the researcher’s originality and innovative ability. It should also be considered whether the research contribution in question appears as particularly outstanding or promising in light of the researcher’s age, the nature of the research project and the research traditions in the academic field in question.

Candidates must be under the age of 35 on 15 September 2012, the closing date for nominations.

The Board of the Ludvig Holberg Memorial Fund hereby invites nominations for the prize.

The prize, which was established by the Norwegian Parliament in 2003, is awarded annually by the Board of the Ludvig Holberg Memorial Fund. The Board will award the prize on the basis of the recommendation from the Nils Klim Prize Academic Committee. The prize for 2013 is NOK 250,000 (approx. 32 000EUR /42 000USD*).

The winner of the 2013 Nils Klim Prize will be announced in March 2013, and the award ceremony will take place in Bergen in June 2013.

Scholars holding a senior position at universities and other research institutions within the above mentioned academic fields are entitled to nominate candidates for the Nils Klim Prize. The letter of nomination must be written in English and state the reasons for the nomination (3 to 5 pages). The letter should also contain a CV for the candidate including list of publication and copies of his/hers doctoral thesis and another significant publication. The letter should also suggest referees who know the researcher and his/her work.

Nominations are confidential. They shall not be disclosed to the nominee or to others, not even after the prize winner has been announced.

Holberg International Memorial Prize is awarded annually for outstanding scholarly work in the fields of the arts and humanities, social sciences, law and theology. The prize amount is NOK 4.5 million (Appr. EUR 570,000/ USD 800,000)

Nils Klim Prize is awarded to young Nordic researchers under 35 years within the academic fields of the Holberg Prize.

Holberg Prize School Project is a research competition for pupils in the upper secondary school.

Holberg Prize was established by the Norwegian Parliament in 2003.
